Art + Music = Stronger Connection
Each monthly art and music pairing comes together a little differently—sometimes the visual art is inspired by the music video and sometimes the pairing is inspired by the relationship of the artists— but always with the goal that the two pieces work together to create a rich experience: a sum that’s greater than its parts. The art makes us think more about the video which makes us think more about the art… Each artist’s ideas are made richer and more complete by experiencing the two pieces together. Looking through these artists’ eyes is a wonderful way to see the world differently, to feel a little more alive and connected to a creative community.
Our Story
MFYI was founded by two artists, Jen and Cassia, who are passionate about experimental music. We met in 2014 when we were hired to perform together in a string trio, and we quickly became allies in extreme music dorkiness and unabashed attention to detail (every. single. detail.)
In the spring of 2020, when the pandemic and safer-at-home orders suddenly canceled all live concerts, we set out to design an at-home concert and art experience that could make up for all that we had lost; one that rich, multi-layered, engaging, and, importantly, one that paid artists for their work.
Since then, our little pandemic baby has grown into so much more than what we first imagined! We find it inspiring that these videos are able to capture details of interpretation that aren’t possible with a live event, and it makes us smile when we hand-address the postcards to each of our audience members every month. We’ve watched our community grow and thrive as we regularly connect with new artists on the cutting edge of their craft and virtually meet subscribers from all over the world.
