Film and Mail Art by
about the art
This month we present Excuse Me, Miss!, a sound film with a companion piece of mail art created by interdisciplinary artist, filmmaker, and writer Cherlyn Hsing-Hsin Liu & guitarist and composer Michael Pisaro-Liu.
Excuse Me, Miss! looks at Los Angeles from the perspective of a recent immigrant, observing the things that are quietly changing the face of the city. This film chronicles a journey by and through the itinerant multiple, speculating about the conditions of local identity. The soundtrack abstracts and re-collages the geographical map into a single durational experience, reflecting the x-dimensional time/space of this place.
The companion mail art uses 16mm film from the cutting room floor of Excuse Me, Miss! to create a tiny projector. Each piece of mail art is one of a kind, using a unique section of film.
