about the art

María Alejandra Bulla made something for you. For her piece we will hear the music coming, María created a film where a glowing, translucent storybook made from tracing paper shares, layer by layer, a poem that contemplates silence and waiting. As the poem unfolds, we hear delicate sounds of pages slowly being turned alongside field recordings and soft, electronic tones.

In her art practice, Maria creates small objects such as mirror boxes, hand sewn booklets, nesting cloth envelopes, or a cardboard music box—objects designed to be handled and explored. She then gives the object away as a gift so that you can interpret it freely and have a personal musical experience.

Maria’s artistic work lives comfortably at the intersection of sound, craft and design so she’s taken over this month’s offering as both the video artist and the postcard artist. She’s reimagined the postcard as a three dimensional object that encourages each of us to create our own handmade treasure.
