about the art
This month presents work by artists who are fearless with color, play, and delight.
Composer and animator Celka Ojakangas uses stop motion and hand-drawn animation to illustrate two of her musical compositions, “Birdcage” and “all creatures small and LOUD”. Channeling joy, exuberance, and delight, Celka explores more tender experiences like feeling trapped or losing a beloved pet. The music mixes genres, gestures, and grooves to tell stories that feel simultaneously heroic and witty.
Sofie Ramos assembles everyday objects — a mattress, a sofa, a bouncy ball, a sock — and transforms them into giddy, bright constructions that seem to burst out of the wall. Sofie often hunts for paint in hardware stores and applies it to domestic objects, giving them new voice. In her postcard art, “sock landscape,” socks and found textiles are dipped in paint then twisted into a landscape that clings to the canvas like icing on a cake.
